Welcome!

Ever since Quake-speedrunning started, the 'community' that kept it going all this time has been a staunch group of online friends. Ofcourse occasionally people left and new people showed up, but in general, a small amount of people made huge efforts to make sure Quake running got the interest it deserved.

In June 2000, a 'convention' was organised by long-time speedrunner Ilkka Kurkela to offer a possibilty for these people to finally meet eachother. This meeting was dubbed 'SpeedCon'. Coming from five different countries from both Europe and the US, 11 people travelled to Tampere, Finland, to hang out for a short week, together with 5 others from Finland.

This page is meant for the attendees of the event to bring back the memories of the good time we had, and also tries to share some of the fun with the people that weren't there: we recorded a vast number of Mad-Coops™, which are always a pleasure to watch, as well as some high-class DM demos between some well-known speedrunners. All of those are available from this page, and we'll be adding pictures (and possibly even videos) that were taken/recorded at the event in the near future (although quite a few are up already, check it the Pics page). For more info about the meeting, see the About page. Don't forget to check out the Misc page too, where you can find info on an entirely new QdQ-demo-compressing-util that was produced during SpeedCon!
